Our story.
The problem wasn’t memory. It was understanding.
Alvia was born from a fundamental problem with how AI systems remember: storing information is not the same as understanding it.
As AI agents become more capable, they’re being trusted with longer-running tasks, increasingly complex decisions, and information that changes over time. Yet much of the infrastructure supporting them still treats memory as a retrieval problem.
Store information. Generate embeddings. Search for similarity. Hope the right context comes back.
That approach works until the information changes.
A decision gets reversed. A requirement is updated. Two sources disagree. The agent retrieves what appears relevant but cannot distinguish what remains true from what has been superseded.
We saw an architectural problem that better retrieval alone couldn’t solve.
Alvia was built to solve it at the source.
Rather than treating facts as isolated records, Alvia evaluates how new facts relate to what already exists. Supersession, contradiction, and relevance are addressed at write time, creating a connected history that agents can reason through.
We call this Point-in-Time Reasoning for AI. PiTRA™ is how Alvia delivers it.
Grounded in science. Engineered for scale.
Human memory is not a static collection of records. It is associative, adaptive, and shaped by new experiences. What we remember, how we connect information, and what we consider relevant evolve as our understanding changes.
These principles influenced Alvia’s architecture.
Rather than attempting to replicate the human brain, we applied ideas from memory science to an engineering problem: how to preserve history, recognize change, and retrieve context that remains meaningful over time.
The result is a system built around relationships, Point-in-Time Reasoning, and continuous formation.
The science informs the design. Engineering makes it reliable.
Engineering is in our DNA.
Alvia was founded by David Rodriguez, a software architect and engineering leader with more than 20 years of experience designing, building, and scaling complex software systems.
His career spans startups and global technology organizations, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), with experience leading engineering initiatives and developing high-performance, distributed systems operating at scale.
That background shaped Alvia from its earliest architectural decisions.
We approached Point-in-Time Reasoning with the same engineering discipline required of production systems where performance, security, reliability, and operational visibility matter.
Alvia is built around deliberate architectural choices:
- Security by design. Strict tenant isolation, project boundaries, scoped access, and authenticated requests.
- Performance at scale. Distributed infrastructure designed for low-latency retrieval and fast resolution at write time.
- Traceability. Explicit relationships, preserved history, and visibility into how context evolves.
- Operational reliability. Durable processing and observable workflows.
- Integration without friction. A hosted context layer accessible through standard APIs and agent protocols.
These aren’t enterprise features added later. They’re foundational engineering decisions.
Why we took a different path.
The AI ecosystem has no shortage of memory solutions.
Many are built around vector databases, retrieval pipelines, or background processes that periodically reconcile accumulated information. These approaches have their place, but we believe they leave an important problem unresolved.
Change should be resolved when it happens. Not discovered later.
Every new fact enters a resolution process that evaluates its relationship to existing information. The system identifies supersession, preserves contradictions, establishes relationships, and maintains the history needed to reconstruct context over time.
This allows agents to retrieve more than semantically similar information. They can receive context informed by what changed, what remains applicable, and what was true before.
We didn’t set out to build another vector database with a memory API.
We built the infrastructure that resolves what’s true.
